Just when you think you are getting somewhere and have a plan in place. It all goes up in the air and off we go in a different direction. Back we go to the photos from the Roller Jam and dissect them. This could get interesting!
Out come the Black plastic bags, scissors, wire and shiny reflective materials, loads of playing with light to try and mix colours to get the right one. Will have to pay a visit to the haberdashery for some more supplies. If it all goes horribly wrong I could just use it to decorate the house for Halloween.

legs, legs and more legs
Loads of experimenting with wire, legs, boots, body profiles & textiles. Not keen on the outcome of the wire legs, but I am keen to do the legs in Paper. So far this has worked quite well. I can see it going in the direction that suits me. Waiting for it to dry currently so that I can round off the curves another bit.
will keep you posted.

Work Work Work
Monday was a good day. Loads to do and loads to catch up on, still swopping ideas from Dublin. A super talk about the fashion side of our course. Real hands on. Yippee.
Followed by a torrent of Workshops on Tuesday. Photoshop, Knitting, Weaving, felting, Ceramics and topped off by Print Making. Loads of ideas floating around again. All you need is an extra pair of hands.
Top that off with an essay list, this should liven us up for a while. Watch for the fireworks.

Bus to Dublin
A novel team building process. The funniest Bus trip to Dublin ever or should we say from Dublin. But the purpose of the trip was to check out the Dublin Contemporary Art Exhibit. Main base in Earlsfort Terrace, but we included loads of other venues also. I think the best by far was the Giant Squid on the top floor in Earlsfort Tce. The care and attention to detail on this piece was second to none. Paintings from each exhibit stood out for me. Some because they were very pleasant and some for other reasons. The Black and White Exhibit was up their as my second choice. Looking forward to our next outing..
Critical studies
Things are beginning to get interesting on the academic side. Loads of information regarding the history of Art over the past few weeks. A great introduction to the critical analysis of paintings. Bring it on. This will be very helpful on the trip to Dublin.
Life Drawing
We had a great introduction to Life Drawing last Tuesday. Loads of hard work and watching closely. This was just what I needed to get out and record some very fast movements. I hope I'll do them justice. Watch out I could have charcoal and a sketch book in my hand next time your out exercising.

Wire Figures for animation
This direction will take a lot more care and attention. The family of figures is growing, so I will have a bit of sport with this. I could end up pulling my hair out when it comes to doing a series of stills. Will have to get a bucket load of patience!
Gestural movement
I tried to capture some large quick drawings and painting of a body moving while skating. I will look forward to the life drawing classes to pick up loads of hints for this.
Gestural movement of skating
Follow on 3D
I thought the wire skate reminded me of the pink panther, without the colour. So I said I'd have a go at real 3D. I liked the idea of a truncated foot on wheels. I sought a foot that had a bit of information around the ankle to see would it be suitable to mould. Eventually I will make another, paint it and add manicured fake nails and then add on the wheels and the laces effect if required.

Have you any theory on this..

w4
Soo much happened last week. Loads of new theory introduced, this had me stuck to the library and one eye on my desk, trying to get some gestural movement down on paper. All my plans of getting new photographs of Skating nearly went up in smoke thanks to the weather, but ever the opportunist I spotted one of my fellow student with a pair of Skates under the desk and Woo Hoo I got some great shots of him on continuous action. They are lovely. I am indeed grateful to him for being a good sport. I think they will look super and will upload at my earliest for you to view.
Looking forward to our trip to Dublin on Thursday to see the Dublin Contemporary Art Exbo.

End of week 3

Check out this clip from You Tube. These guys are amazing and daring. The freedom of it.... Awesome.
How could roller skating be viewed as boring.... well it's not in my book. Having spent most of my youth on skates of some description and attempting most things even on archaic looking skates that you could extend to whatever size you like. I have to hand it to these boys in Paris, they know how to have fun.
I was busy over the last while, observing skating life in general. Gestures, posture, Roller Derbys and came away with some fabulous lighting effects of profiles on the roller disco floor. I even made a mould of a foot with wheels attached. This leaves me with loads to think about and wonder what happens if...
